Abstract

Meera Jee's name is a big reference in the Urdu Poetry of the twentieth century. With regard to the modern literature, the Progressive Writers' Movement attracted the Urdu poets to political, social and cultural ideology; the writers did not look at the other ideas and theories of life and universe. At this time Meera Jee instead of writing on politics, economy and the history of the society ventured into those worlds of subconscious mind that we do not see the example of in the Urdu poetry particularly in the song writing. In this article, basic discussion of Indian Islamic Culture in the twentieth century is made in the light of which, the cultural meaning of Hindi words in his song writings is raised. It is so because the usage of Hindi words in Urdu poetry is not only insufficient but also unnecessary in understanding the Islamic culture and civilization. This article helps us in understanding the significance of culture in the human life, the cultural necessity of Hindi words that entered the song writings and what distinction does it provide to the songs of Meera Jee.
