Abstract

The novel 'Aag ka darya' by Qurat ul Ain ,is based on a deep insight and scholarly thinking about history and civilization. Its subject matter covers the dialogues among civilizations that had been the part of the subcontinent for more than two thousand years. The subcontinent has never been remained under the dominancy of one nation. It has always been influenced by scores of nations diverse civilizations from the Aryans to the British who attacked and transformed the region with their own cultures and traditions. Today, not a single nation could claim to be the sole heir of the civilization of the subcontinent. Though the author, Qurat ul Ain has highlighted this issue in all her novels, this novel also propagates the same point. The prime quality of the novel 'Aag ka Darya' is that it covers the long span of eras of the subcontinent. After rationalizing all the reasons, the present article explains the argument of the novelist in the light of those recent debates about the clashes of civilizations and reveals the real motives of the novelist who preaches dialogues instead of clashes among civilizations.
