William: A dialectical metaphor of the colonial period

Nau Lakhi Kotthi by Ali Akbar Natiq is a prominent novel of 21st Century. This Novel covers the Colonial and Post- Colonial Period. This Novel is based on a real character 'Wiliam' which can be considered a metaphor of Colonial Period. This was the era when the wave of independence in India was awakened and Queen Britain's grip was weakened. William's grandfather and father had ruled successfully over the Subcontinent. Now William wanted to rule here as commissioner. It was the time to fall of British Colonialism in Subcontinent. In the start of Novel, writer reflects the mentality of William which is basically reflection of all Britain. According to that mentality British wanted to rule here with full power. With the passage of time William becomes a sensitive person. William does not belong to British policies. He Loves Hindustan that's why at the time of independence he preferred to stay in Okara which is city of Pakistan. Purpose of this article is to highlight the features of this Novel specially to reflect the mentality of William who is the metaphor of Colonialism.
