Abstract

Haiku is considered a new genre of poetry. This form, which has entered Urdu from the Japanese language, relies on presenting the poet's experiences and observations concisely. Natural phenomena, the colors of objects, water, lakes, plants, seasons, flowers, gardens, and birds are among the favorite themes of haiku. The poet uses these subjects to highlight their thoughts. Haiku was introduced into Urdu through translations by Zafar Iqbal in the magazine *Lail-o-Nihar*. Later, Dr. Parvaiz Pervazi, Abdul Aziz Khalid, and Dr. Muhammad Amin encouraged the growth of haiku in Urdu. Now, in addition to themes of natural scenery, Urdu haiku also includes subjects such as *Hamd* (praise of God), *Naat* (PUBH), and *Salaam* (eulogies for martyrs), giving it a distinct identity. Dr. Riaz Majeed and Akram Kaleem have used this form specifically for *Naat*."Seep" has also adorned its pages with this modern genre of poetry. The prominent haiku poets published in *Seep* include Fatima Hasan, Salman Saeed, Qayyum Tahir, Jameel Malik, Mehr Nigar, Bushra Ijaz, Nigar Sohbai, Nisar Turabi, Naseem Sehar, Saif Hassanpuri, Shahab Safdar, and Sadaf Jafri.
