Deputy Nazeer Ahmad is widely known for his novels and translated works in Urdu language and literature. His book "Rasm ul Khat"was among the first ever books of Urdu orthography published in 1877.In his book; the author has discussed Urdu letters of the alphabet, their composition in words and different shapes of an Urdu letter in different uses. Moreover, the author has also introduced new terms in Urdu orthography .the book primarily covers elementary and tertiary level activities of Urdu orthography for native and foreign learners. However some disputed notions also exist in the book about alphabets and their uses in Urdu language. The researcher has attempted a critical and research based study of the book in this paper.
