Abstract

Whenever an effort to sort out the constructive aspects of art has been made, literature is never neglected. It plays a remarkable role in shaping the collective future of a society. The term 'role' has been interpreted in different perspectives deriving different dreams about the future. In this chapter, many movements and trends which were assigned different roles came up and went down by the time. Today, once again literature is being asked to play some role for the reconstruction of society.  It means we are dissatisfied at the two ends. One is the current structure of society while other is the role of current literature. It is a fact that today our society is full of contradictions and inconsistencies which is the result of those different hypothesis introduced in the name of ideologies and diverse ways of governance adopted. We have reached very near to the point of collapse in every domain of contemporary society. At this stage, the intention to think about the reconstruction is itself a remarkable approach. But the question is where have our literature been for so long when society was coming close to the point of no return. Did literature not play any constructive role in shaping better future? I am afraid to say yes. This article is introducing a new term "Constructive Literature' and mainly deals with the question of making an impression on society. Constructive literature should aim to show its purpose very clearly and intend to have beneficial motives. It should be more conscious about its impact so more elaborative. The traditional face of our literature cannot play any effective role in reconstruction of society.  The socio-political scenario of 21st century is insisting for a deep intention, empire has changed its face and tune, we are going through the crucial wave of extremism and besides all, the word 'change' is gaining remarkable popularity in our society. In this perspective where there is a need to sign a new social contract, a constructivism (in its literal meanings) in literature is also required. 'Constructive literature' should be attached to the regional facts. It should focus on the internal management of a classified society and compile social norms, religious beliefs, economical conditions and political agendas on a single page. Firstly, it should try to sort out the reasons behind insecurity and alienation and secondly set a humanist base for the reconstruction. Constructive literature should not only intend to raise questions to think about but try to answer all the questions arising and existing too. This is the only way left to make an impression in reconstruction of contemporary society.
