The paper describes the historical back ground of modernism and existentialism. It is tried to probe that how western modernism has entered into the Urdu literature. While introducing the five basic elements of modernism, it has been analyzed that how these elements reflected directly and indirectly in the short stories of Rasheed Amjad. It also analyzed that though the elements of symbol is dominated in his short stories, however his symbols profoundly become part of the debate of existentialism.
