Abstract
Establishing Forte William College is generally considered as a mile stone in the history of development of Urdu. This is a fact but partially. Actually it is true that it served a lot for the development of Urdu prose but as far as Urdu language is concerned, it divided a common language Urdu into two different languages for some political gains. The conflict between Urdu and Hindi has its roots in the efforts of Forte William College. The article discusses the factual position critically in this regard.
