Abstract
Ghazal is not only a genre of Urdu poetry but also a cultural history of sub-continent in poetical form. Poets who contributed in this form gave importance to aesthetical value as well as social problems that were emerged by political circumstances. In classical age of Urdu ghazal, poets adopted symbolic style. During colonial period Urdu ghazal faced a very crucial time and struggled for its survival but the poets did not forget their social and political responsibilities. During last three centuries upheavals in socio-political scenario have created not only complex sensibility but multiple images, which have been absorbed by great masters of Urdu ghazal.
