Abstract
In this article, the two literary movements - "Progressive Movement" and the "Movement of Modernism" which started in the fourth decade of the twentieth century, have been analyzed which influenced Urdu literature, especially Urdu poetry. These two movements progressed in parallel to each other and this process carried on after the Independence (1947) as well. The representatives of both the movements had their own artistic orbit that makes both the movements to stand confronting one another, however there were many similar aspects. Anyhow, both the movements enriched Urdu poetry with contemporary insight, modern sensibility and newness of form and style.
