Abstract
Faiz Ahmad Faiz was not only a distinct poet of Urdu and an influential left wing intellectual but a political activist too. He can be considered in the pioneers of Progressive Writers Association that has been taken as the wing of communist writers since its early period. He was an avowed Marxist-communist who even joined British Indian Army to record its resistance against Fascism that was dreaming to rule over Soviet Union. Faiz Ahmad Faiz had also been working for trade unions since his stay in Amartsar. His affiliation with Sajjad Zaheer and somehow with Communist party of Pakistan dragged him in Rawalpindi Conspiracy Case and remained in prison for more than four years. Faiz received Lenin Peace Prize by the Soviet Union in 1962 that was a great and only achievement by any Pakistani poet and left wing political activist. This article is all about his political career.
