Abstract
The decline of Mughal Empire in 18th Century badly affected all spheres of life. Social and administrative set up turned into anarchy which ultimately distorted the contours of civilization. Economic and moral values were also lost. In such chaotic situation, it was only Urdu poetry which flourished. However, the prevailing circumstances affected Urdu poetry and resultantly the element of dejection, despondency, hopelessness and pessimism that brought Urdu poetry closer to mysticism. This research paper focuses on the golden age of Urdu poetry with special reference to economic, social and cultural values and norms: and without its cognizance the proper comprehension and appreciation of Urdu Poetry is useless.
