Abstract
Urdu Autobiography achieved the status of creative art at the end of 19th century. Before this, biographical notes and diaries of kings of Hindustan written in Persian Language became the source for the development of this genre. The discussion about personal details of life and bio data of renowned poets of Urdu had been written in Persian Language. In the writings of kings, there was nothing except the adventures of their personal life and details about the circumstances of Royal Palace. Furthermore, even the poetry of that era reveals the inflated merits of kings just to appease them and to seek their favour where as all the aspects of public life were utterly ignored. In 20th century there are so many remarkable autobiographies written before and after partition which gained popularity for their eloquent style. There are different opinions about first autobiography in Urdu. In the present article, it has been critically analyzed that which autobiography has firstly been written in Urdu language. From beginning to 21st century, approximately four hundred autobiographies written by literary celebrities and non-literary writers such as high military officials, politicians and bureaucrats. A brief review of these autobiographies is also being reproduced in the following lines.
