Hafeez Hushiarpuir (1912-1973) is one of hte most important ghazal poets of Pakistan. He was one of the founders of Halqa-i-Arbab-i-Zauq. He was a researcher, teacher of philosophy and was highly skilled in "Tarikh-goee". Also he was the mentor of Nasir Kazimi. His poetry reflects intense 'taghazzul' as well as expertise in poetic technique. Prosodic trends are an aspect of his poetry. The abundance of metres, their selection and some delinquencies are noticeable. In this article, his prososdic tendencies have been compared with those of other poets in a cursory manner. The study reveals not only Hafeez's metrical know how but also surprisingly brings forth some delinquencies which are unexpected of a poet of such caliber both from creative and technical points of view.
