Abstract
It has been a long standing tradition that standard journals devote the whole issue to critically evaluate the literary contribution of a scholar. This tradition is quite strong in Urdu literary journals. Prestigious Urdu journals like Naqoosh, Nigar, Auraq and Saqi have contributed well to this tradition. This paper attempts to demonstrate that Afkar has contributed more than any other journal to this tradition. Twenty three of its issues have been devoted to famous literary figures like Iqbal, Faiz,Manto, Krishan Chandar and Ali Sardar Jaffary. The paper presents a critical appraisal of these issues.
