Abstract
This paper is about the significance of culture and civilization in literature. In the first part of the article authors discuss the definitions of culture and civilization briefly but comprehensively. After this the paper brings out the importance of culture in literature. Then there are vivid examples of cultural depiction and presentation from Urdu literature, prose as well as poetry, from ancient to modern times. The paper concludes that no piece of living art can be created without having a flavour of culture.
