Abstract
It has been argued in this essay that critical thinking essentially leads to analytical process that leads to research. For example in modern Urdu criticism one not only finds an increasing trend towards rational argument, evidence and analysis, but it is also beginning to draw heavily upon scientific and sociological facts. Then again the need to write a history of literature also forces one to do research. Hence one major trend in modern criticism is this increasing inter-dependence of critical thinking and research.
