Abstract
Shaukat Siddiqui, a great Urdu writer, is often compared to Charles Dickens in his depiction of social reality. Hence in this paper, a comparison of Shaukat Siddiqui and Charles Dickens is undertaken. The comparison aims at showing not only the similaries in the portrayal of social inequalities, but also the differences not previously recognised at all. The major difference that has been presented in this study of the two writers is that Charles Dickens was optimistic and hopeful whereas Shaukat Siddqui's outlook is pervaded by pessimism.
