Abstract
This research paper is about the origin and development of comparative literature. In comparative literature the civilizations and cultures of different nations are studied. Hence they become a source of mutual exchange of art and knowledge across languages and cultures. This paper is partly a study of pioneering works in the field of Poetry literature with reference to the Orientalists in general, focusing in particular on Goetheþs comparison of German and Chinese poerty. This study is introduced by surveying at first comparative studies undertaken in various Western and Arabic universities where comparative literature is recognized as an important branch of Knowledge.
