Abstract
The Nigar is an eminent literary journal of Urdu which emerged on the literary horizons in Feb. 1922 under the editorship of the renowned literary personality Allama Niaz Fateh Puri from Agra. The journal then moved to Lucknow in 1927. It was published from Lucknow till 1962. In 1962 the journal was published from Karachi as the founder-editor Allama Niaz Fatehpuri left India seeking Pakistani nationality. The Nigar has been published from Karachi since then. Professor Dr. Farman Fatehpuri became its editor after the demise of Allama Niaz Fatehpuri in May 1966. This literary journal, from the very beginning, set new trends in Urdu literature. It promoted liberalism and enlightenment in the orthodox society of the Sub-continent through its columns, essays and editorial notes. This paper briefly presents its services from the very beginning till 2000.
