Abstract
Islam is a progressive religion: progress in both spiritual and material aspects of life is part and parcel of the spirit of Islam. Islam favours material development and progress and discourages asceticism. Asceticism, in fact, is against the spirit of Islam. Koran quotes examples of the participation of prophets in material progress: Noah founded marine industry and Solomon played a positive role in the arts of architecture and ceramics.
