Abstract
Feminism as a field of critical study emerged from the thoughts of Mary Wollstonecraft, John Stuart Mill Virginia Woolf and Simone de Beauvoir who voiced for rights of women. The Progressive writers of early 20th century introduced the concepts of feminism in Urdu literature. Tahira Iqbal is a modern writer and in her fiction with cultural setting of conservative Punjab society; has voiced against subjugation of women. Her novel HARAPPA consists of dynamic female characters who stand against brutal and lustful male characters. HARAPPA is a beautiful study of dominant male characters and inner working of social instruments to subjugate the women and novel also presents female characters struggling to thrive in patriarchal society. In her novel she narrated the life and struggle of Snoobar. Snoobar is a daughter of traditional feudal family. She is treated conservatively by her father, two brothers and even by her mother. Her family keeps marriage proposal for her rejected lest land of family will be divided. She succeeds to get married only after the death of her father, mother and two brothers. Her younger brother respects her which writer suggests that norms of society are change now. This study THE FEMINIST STUDY OF TAHIRA IQBAL’S NOVEL HARRAPA interprets the novel according to feminist critical perspective. This study decodes the norms and traditions that Tahira Iqbal Incorporated in her novel and that are used to subjugate women in society.
