A training workshop for the editors of all the journals of social sciences, arts and humanities held on 13-14 June, 2019 at Lahore regional centre of Higher Education Commission Pakistan. It was a great learning opportunities for the editors. Prof. Dr. M. Imtiaz Subhani from Karachi and Prof. Dr. Ather Azim Khan from Lahore were the resource persons however Dr. M. Sarmad (UET, Lahore) also joined for a very short time and shared the progress of some HEC funded projects like Urdu Plagiarism Detection Software and Impact Factor Mechanism; going on under his supervision. Dr. Subhani covered the topic of indexing of research journals. He explained the Clarivate Analytics; it's working mechanism and scope in detail. While talking about the indexing of social sciences journals, he also introduced some agencies like DOAJ, Scopus and Web of Science. Dr. Athar Azim was mainly concerned with the criteria of being indexed in renowned indexing agencies. He discussed publication ethics, plagiarism and its different types, competing/conflicting interests, issue of duplicate submission and copyrights in detail.
Dr. Syed Tahir Ali Shah briefed the editors about different measures taken by the HEC to uplift the social sciences journals. He told the participants that the future policy of HEC regarding funding of the journal is to encourage the subscription based publications.
Dr. Mumtaz Khan Kalyani, Editor JOR (Urdu) and Dr. Muhammad Khawar Nawazish, Sub-Editor JOR (Urdu) participated in that workshop and raised some basic questions regarding the indexing of Urdu research journals. Such orientation workshops should be regularly organized to learn more about editing a journal, said the editor JOR (Urdu).
