Abstract

Sir Syed's contributions for the betterment and empowerment of the Muslims are great. His greatest achievement was the Aligarh Movement which contributed a lot for the regeneration and revival of the Muslims of the Sub-Continent. Sir Syed and his colleagues by their combined efforts tried to revive the spirit of progress within the Muslim community of India. A number of Muslim Urdu prose writers of eminence, historians and essayists came to the front. Sir Syed's himself wrote a number of books like Asarus Sanadeed, Asbab-e-Baghawat-e-Hind and Tehzib-Ul-Akhlaq and succeeded in marking people realize the value of modern knowledge and gave new directions to Muslim social and political thoughts. Sir Syed's companions like Molana hali, Shibli Nomani and Molana Zakaullah also tried to revive people of subcontinent through literary contributions. Literary works of Maulana Hali like Musaddas, biography of Sir Syed, Mirza Ghalib, and of Shekh Saadi are considered as one of the great contribution to Urdu literature. Similarly, shibli Nomani's books like Al Farooq, Al Gazali, Al Mamoon, Al Kalam, and Seratun Nabi are so famous and authentic that history student uses them as reference book for their research paper. Moreover, Molvi Zakaullah wrote many books on science and mathematics and the history of medieval India. Thus, these all people with great power of knowledge were the backbone of Aligarh Movement and their main motive was to fight and sought against old customs and traditions.
