Abstract

The first intermediate college in Multan was established in 1926 with its name as "Multan College". Mr. Tomlinson was appointed as its first principal. In 1923 (under the governorship of Sir Herbert Emerson) the status of the College was raised to degree level and it was renamed as Emerson College Multan. In 1932 the first literary journal of the college started its publication under the title of Nakhlistan. Initially this magazine used to be published in 3 languages i.e. (English, Urdu and Hindi). Since the partition, it is being published in two languages i.e. English and Urdu. Nakhlistan used to inspire the promising students to take interest in the Fine Arts, who contributed to the magazine their compositions in the form of prose, poetry, short story and essays. Undoubtedly there has been a great deal of contribution of Emerson College Multan in the promotion of all the creative arts. Hence the services of the journal Nakhlistan shall remain unforgettable in the history of the college and also in the history of our beloved city Multan. This article with briefly examine the contents of the available issues of Nakhlistan and its contribution towards educational and literary ethos of the region
