Abstract

Historical Novels in Urdu are usually written in a stereotype manner. The popular formula of such novels is the selection of Muslim male and non-Muslim female protagonists. The article introduces an historical novel of nineteenth century written by an Alig. It takes account of the formulaic technique and by analysis of the novel shows the fallacies that stereotype thinking may produce. It also brings forth the biased position taken by the writer in the early days of nationalism.
