Abstract

Sara Suleri left Pakistan to become a professor of English at Yale. This experience of migrancy multiplied by personal and political tragedies at home made her look back and reflect on her life in Pakistan. She produced a biography Meatless Days which won acclaim the world over for its dexterous execution of tales narrated in such a manner as to fuse the personal with the political history of the country. The aim of this paper is no more than to trace out, in the first two tales, the development of meatless days as the central metaphor for the whole book.
