Abstract

Mohsin Naqvi (1947 - 1996) is considered among some of the most renowned and unique litterateurs of Urdu Literature who revitalized Urdu Poetry in Pakistan through their skilled art and masterly imagination. In addition to being a well-distinguished romantic poet, Mohsin Naqvi is also known as an excellent orator, a well-known journalist and a skilled creator of both Urdu poetry and prose who held distinguished position among his contemporaries. Today, we do not find many litterateurs in contemporary Pakistani era that have tried, tested and recognized almost all genres of Urdu poetry. Accordingly, this fact makes Mohsin even more prominent that he even included specialties of Urdu poetry such as Hamd, Naat, Salam, Manqabat and Marsiya, in addition to his core competency of creating magnificent Urdu ghazals and nazms (poems). Mohsin Naqvi is widely regarded as a deep thinker. He does not think of religious poetry as merely a collection of poems but essentially pour out his beliefs, maturity, awareness and philosophy of life in it. The fact, that Mohsin created and presented new tactics, phraseologies and thoughts through his religious poetry that were clearly well-distinguished from those of his contemporaries. The Topical division of Mohsin Naqvi's religious poetry from (Hamd-O-Naat to Risai Adab) shows that Mohsin Naqvi practiced in almost genres in religious poetry. In this context, a detailed analysis of Mohsin's religious poetry reveals that he took diligent care in keeping poetic trends and traditions, accent, phraseologies and power of expression alive.
