Abstract

Sibt e Hasan is a prominent scholar and important cultural critic of Pakistan.. He is follower of Marxist theory of social structure and its development through various ages. A debate of culture and Pakistani culture was very significant in the post independence era. This debate has three major dimensions: fundamental Islamic culture, Indo Muslim culture and progressive approach towards culture. As being a marxsist he always remained hard liner and studied the Pakistani culture with progressive approach. Hence he is close to Sajjad Zaheer and Mumtaz Hussain instead of Faiz Ahmad Faiz and Ahmad Nadeem Qasmi, It is his major contribution that he studied the culture of Pakistan in the light of history and societal development. His book "Pakistan mein Tahzeeb ka Irtiqa" is a comprehensive ducument on this topic. The following article is an endeavour to cover Sibt e Hassan's cultural thoughts.
