Abstract

Eighteenth century is a story of the declination of Mughal empire and official language Persian in Hindustan. The Europeans and Urdu (the then Hindustani language) were going to replace the Mughals and Persian respectively. The local community of hindustan was adopting the local language Urdu rapidly. This language was the lingua franca at that time.The orientalists also contributed and strengthened the language in the form of compiling grammars and dictionaries of hindustanee(urdu) language. This article presents the linguistic study of eighteenth century Hindustan.
